Noble Raton well cuts hydrocarbon pay

Noble Energy Inc., operator of the Raton prospect on Mississippi Canyon Block 248 in the Gulf of Mexico, reported promising results from its initial Raton well.

HOUSTON, June 16 -- Noble Energy Inc., operator of the Raton prospect on Mississippi Canyon Block 248 in the Gulf of Mexico, reported promising results from its initial Raton well.

The well, in 3,400 ft of water, reached a measured TD of 20,106 ft after spudding on Apr. 15. It encountered 90 ft of hydrocarbon pay over three zones. It has been temporarily abandoned. Further delineation drilling is scheduled for the fourth quarter.

Noble Energy has a 50% interest in the Raton prospect. Samson Offshore and Energy Partners Ltd. have a 25% interest each.
