National Iranian Oil Co. plans to sign contracts shortly with China's Sinopec on the Khorramabad exploration block and with Norsk Hydro ASA on the Garmsar block, press reports indicated.

HOUSTON, June 7 -- National Iranian Oil Co. plans to sign contracts shortly with China's Sinopec on the Khorramabad exploration block and with Norsk Hydro ASA on the Garmsar block, press reports indicated.

Sinopec will commit $49.5 million in spending on Khorramabad, which covers 7,740 sq km in the Zagros fold belt. The work commitment is for geological studies, seismic reprocessing and acquisition, and drilling 3 exploration wells.

Norsk Hydro is to spend $19.6 million on Garmsar, which covers 12,183 sq km about 40 miles northeast of Sarkhan oil and gas field. The work program is reprocessing existing seismic data, shooting 2D seismic surveys, and drilling 2 exploration wells.
