Husky boosts activities in the Jeanne d'Arc basin

Husky Energy Inc. has started drilling a well in the Jeanne d'Arc basin off Newfoundland and Labrador using Rowan Cos. Inc.'s Rowan Gorilla VI jack up rig. Drilling began June 27 and is expected to take 60 days.

HOUSTON, June 29 -- Husky Energy Inc. has started drilling a well in the Jeanne d'Arc basin off Newfoundland and Labrador using Rowan Cos. Inc.'s Rowan Gorilla VI jack up rig. Drilling began June 27 and is expected to take 60 days.

The West Bonne Bay prospect is in Significant Discovery License 1040, 320 km southeast of St. John's near Terra Nova oil field in 100 m of water.

Husky has an agreement with Norsk Hydro Canada Oil & Gas Inc., which holds a 90% interest in the West Bonne Bay SDL 1040. Husky received a 25% interest in SDL 1040 and an additional 7.5% in the North Ben Nevis SDL 1008, where Husky previously had 65.6% interest.

Husky will operate the drilling program, with operatorship reverting to Norsk Hydro upon conclusion of the drilling operations.
