Edge Petroleum Corp., Houston, said it has accelerated development if its Arkoma basin Mississippian Fayetteville shale gas acreage and expects to drill at least four wells in partnership with Southwestern Energy Co., Houston.

HOUSTON, June 7 -- Edge Petroleum Corp., Houston, said it has accelerated development if its Arkoma basin Mississippian Fayetteville shale gas acreage and expects to drill at least four wells in partnership with Southwestern Energy Co., Houston.

The play is moving steadily toward Edge's 4,600 net acres in the play, and based on recent industry success Edge estimated that more than 100 wells will be required to develop its acreage.

Meanwhile, the company has deferred drilling in the Black Warrior basin Mississippian Floyd shale play, where it has more than 38,000 net acres, until 2007. Edge expects industry to drill several Floyd wells in the second half of 2006.
