HOUSTON, May 8 -- The 21/23a8Z sidetrack well on the Disraeli prospect just southwest of the 2005 Saxon oil discovery has intersected a 90-ft oil column in Eocene Tay sandstone on Block 21/23a in the UK Central North Sea, said Oilexco Inc., Calgary.

Oilexco is plugging back the 8Z wellbore to allow another sidetrack to be drilled to evaluate the oil column at the structure's crest. Drilling time is put at 7 days.

Oilexco paid 95% of the cost of the 21/23a-8 wellbore to evaluate Tay sand at about 5,000 ft to earn a 65% interest in Block 21/23a to the base of the Tay. The company also paid 95% of the incremental costs to evaluate Jurassic Fulmar, but that section of the hole failed to find commercial hydrocarbons.

The drilling is being carried out on the west flank of a structure defined by 3D seismic data. Sterling Resources Ltd., Calgary, holds the other 35% interest.
