Southwestern marks Fayetteville progress

Southwestern Energy Co., Houston, said it produced 1.8 bcf of gas from the eastern Arkoma basin Mississippian Fayetteville shale play in 2005 and booked 101 bcf of proved reserves.

HOUSTON, May 10 -- Southwestern Energy Co., Houston, said it produced 1.8 bcf of gas from the eastern Arkoma basin Mississippian Fayetteville shale play in 2005 and booked 101 bcf of proved reserves.

As of May 1, the company held 880,000 net acres in the play and had spudded 148 wells, including 10 nonoperated wells, in 18 pilot areas in seven Arkansas counties. It had 72 wells producing a combined 20 MMcfd of gas, 53 drilling, 16 at completion/hookup, and 7 shut-in/marginal or temporarily abandoned.

The 53 wells include 44 horizontal wells drilled vertically and waiting to be reentered using a larger rig to drill the horizontal section.

The 2006 plan is to drill 175-200 wells and test a further 17-22 pilot areas.
