HOUSTON, May 23 -- Shell Exploration & Production Co. is restarting oil and gas production from its Mars tension leg platform (TLP) on Mississippi Canyon Block 807 in the Gulf of Mexico.

Mars production of 140,000 b/d of oil and 156 MMcfd of gas has been shut in since late August 2005 due to damage from Hurricane Katrina.

Shell plans to restore Mars production to pre-Katrina rates by the end of June.

Shell, operator, has a 71.5% interest in the TLP. BP has the remaining 28.5%.
