HOUSTON, May 16 -- Roc Oil (WA) Pty. Ltd., Sydney, has begun oil production from the CH-12H horizontal well in Cliff Head oil field off Western Australia. CH-12H, the second well drilled in the field, was producing 6,800 b/d of oil in mid-May.
Cliff Head, in production license WA-31-L, is producing through an unmanned steel platform in 18 m of water about 10 km from shore (OGJ Online, May 2, 2006). The first well drilled, CH-6, which began producing earlier this month at 1,000 b/d, has been shut in for repairs to its electric submersible pump.
The offshore Perth basin field is expected to produce more than 10,000 b/d of oil in the next few weeks, operator Roc Oil said, when four other wells, including three additional horizontal wells, are brought on stream. The stacked Permian-age sand reservoirs have reserves estimated at 14 million bbl.
Oil is transported via a 14 km pipeline to the Arrowsmith water separation plant onshore. First oil deliveries were trucked May 5 to BP's crude oil unloading facility at Kwinana. Water separated at Arrowsmith is returned to the field through a second pipeline to two reinjection wells.
