Maersk lets contract for Al Shaheen work

Maersk Oil Qatar AS has let a turnkey contract to National Petroleum Construction Co. (NPC), Abu Dhabi, for supply of facilities involved in the follow-on development of Al Shaheen oil and gas field on Block 5 off Qatar.

HOUSTON, May 31 -- Maersk Oil Qatar AS has let a turnkey contract to National Petroleum Construction Co. (NPC), Abu Dhabi, for supply of facilities involved in the follow-on development of Al Shaheen oil and gas field on Block 5 off Qatar.

Maersk, which owns a 100% interest in the production-sharing contract with Qatar Petroleum, plans to raise Al Shaheen oil production from 240,000 b/d in this year's first quarter to 525,000 b/d in late 2009 (OGJ, Jan. 9, Newsletter).

The contract with NPC covers design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, load-outs, sea fastening, offshore transportation, and installatiion of five wellhead platform jackets, associated risers, and two bridges between the jackets and existing platforms.

The four-legged jackets will be designed for water depths of 52-70 m. Completion of all work covered by the contract is scheduled for 2007.
