US drilling rebounds

US drilling rebounded with 1,608 rotary rigs working, up by 17 units from the previous week and above the 1,325 in service the same period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Apr. 28.

HOUSTON, Apr. 28 -- US drilling rebounded with 1,608 rotary rigs working, up by 17 units from the previous week and above the 1,325 in service the same period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Apr. 28.

Land operations led the increase, up by 11 rigs with 1,487 working. Offshore drilling increased by 3 rigs to 96 in US waters, including a gain of 1 to 90 in the Gulf of Mexico. Activity in inland waters also increased by 3 rigs, to 25 working.

Louisiana accounted for most of the gain, up by 11 rigs with 194 making hole. Texas and California increased by 4 rigs each, to 730 and 34, respectively. New Mexico gained 3 rigs for a total of 97, and Alaska was unchanged with 7 units working. Oklahoma and Wyoming were down by 1 rig each, to 174 and 102, respectively. Colorado lost 2 units to 82.

With the seasonal thaw, Canada's rig count dropped by 26 units to 150, down from 160 a year ago.
