CNOOC unit farms in to Browse basin permits

China's CNOOC Ltd. has signed a farmin agreement with BHP Billiton Ltd. and Kerr-McGee Australia Exploration & Production Pty. Ltd. giving subsidiary CNOOC Australia E&P Pty. Ltd. a 25% interest in four deepwater exploration permits in the Outer Browse basin 300 km off Western Australia.

HOUSTON, Apr. 3 -- China's CNOOC Ltd. has signed a farmin agreement with BHP Billiton Ltd. and Kerr-McGee Australia Exploration & Production Pty. Ltd. giving subsidiary CNOOC Australia E&P Pty. Ltd. a 25% interest in four deepwater exploration permits in the Outer Browse basin 300 km off Western Australia.

The blocks, WA-301-P, WA-303-P, WA-304-P, and WA-305-P, cover a total area of 21,000 sq km in water about 2,000 m deep.

BHP Billiton is operator of the permits, where CNOOC said significant studies have been conducted.
