HOUSTON, Mar. 7 -- Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, has amassed more than 100,000 net acres since 2002 in Pittsburg, Hughes, and Coal counties in the western Arkoma basin and has built net production to 35 MMcfd of gas.

The company has drilled 92 wells through February 2006, including 35 in 2005, and is running six rigs, four of which are horizontal tests to Devonian Woodford shale. The 2006 program calls for 65 wells, 45 of which will be horizontals.

The objective formations are the Wapanucka lime, Cromwell sand, Caney and Woodford shales, and the Hunton lime of Pennsylvanian through Ordovician age at 6,000 to 11,000 ft.

In the Woodford play, where Newfield is the most active operator, it was drilling or completing seven horizontal wells and two vertical wells. Production from recent horizontal wells was encouraging with flow rates averaging 2 MMcfd of gas.
