CNX Gas Corp., formed in mid-2005 to operate the natural gas assets of Consol Energy Inc., Pittsburgh, said its Appalachian basin proved reserves climbed 8.2% to 1.13 tcf at the end of 2005.

HOUSTON, Feb. 14 -- CNX Gas Corp., formed in mid-2005 to operate the natural gas assets of Consol Energy Inc., Pittsburgh, said its Appalachian basin proved reserves climbed 8.2% to 1.13 tcf at the end of 2005.

The increase consisted of 78 bcf from drilling and 56 bcf of upward revisions. No acquisitions or dispositions occurred in 2005.

CNX produced 50.2 bcf during the year, including 48.4 bcf of sales gas. The reserves increase replaced 271% of production.

Nearly all of the reserves are coalbed methane in Virginia. The company has 32.5 bcf of reserves in Northern Appalachia. Joint ventures for conventional gas have 2.7 bcf in Tennessee and 1.2 bcf in Central Appalachia.
