UK universities to study asphaltene fouling

The UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has awarded three universities a £2.2 million grant to find ways to improve efficiencies and cut energy costs of refineries.

HOUSTON, Feb. 28 -- The UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has awarded three universities a £2.2 million grant to find ways to improve efficiencies and cut energy costs of refineries.

The universities of Bath, Cambridge, and Imperial College will study asphaltene fouling of heat exchange equipment in distillation units.

The project team will collaborate with ESDU International PLC, London, and will be managed by Imperial College Prof. Geoff Hewitt.
