HOUSTON, Feb. 17 -- The government awarded TransAtlantic Petroleum Corp., Calgary, production licenses to Izvoru, Vanatori, and Marsa oil and gas fields in the seventh licensing round.

Each field covers about 1,200 acres within 60 miles of Bucharest. State Petrom discovered the fields.

At Izvoru, where Sarmatian age shallow marine sandstones at 4,000 ft produced 1.35 million bbl of oil from 26 wells, TransAtlantic will reenter as many as nine wells in late 2006-07, acquire 25 sq km of 3D seismic data in 2007, and drill a new well in 2007-08. The field has deeper potential in Cretaceous Albian limestones.

Vanatori and Marsa fields are undeveloped. TransAtlantic committed to acquire 2D seismic data in 2006 at Vanatori and, if it confirms a prospect, drill a well in 2007. It will acquire 2D data at Marsa in 2007 and drill a well in 2007-08.
