HOUSTON, Feb. 10 -- A $3.7 million airborne remote sensing survey is under way since late January 2006 on five blocks in the Taoudeni basin, said Baraka Petroleum Ltd., Perth.

UTS Geophysics is gathering 235,400 line-km of magnetic and radiometric data and 44,346 line-km of gravity data on blocks 1, 2, 3, 4, and 9 (see maps, OGJ, May 23, 2005, p. 40). The blocks cover a combined 193,200 sq km. Survey time is six months.

The contractor flew more than 17,000 km of lines in "excellent conditions" by Feb. 10 from the Timbuktu airport. Baraka's quality control team in Perth evaluates representative data daily via satellite.

Baraka also holds about 80,000 sq km in neighboring Mauritania.
