HOUSTON, Jan. 17 -- Wireline logs at the Mputa-1 exploration well on Block 2 indicated oil shows in two intervals in the deeper objective that Tullow Oil PLC, London, said "prove the existence of a working petroleum system in the Albertine graben."

Tullow Oil recovered oil samples from the first interval, a sand 10-m thick (gross) at 965 m. The company plans to sample the lower interval and plug the well.

Any production testing will be considered in conjunction with future drilling. The rig will move to the Waraga-1 location 20 km northeast and later drill the Kingfisher prospect on Block 3A.
