Tsakos takes delivery of VLCC

Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. has taken delivery of the 298,900 dwt double-hull very large crude carrier (VLCC) La Prudencia built in 1993. The vessel has been immediately employed by a major oil company for a 50-day voyage.

HOUSTON, Jan. 27 -- Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. has taken delivery of the 298,900 dwt double-hull very large crude carrier (VLCC) La Prudencia built in 1993. The vessel has been immediately employed by a major oil company for a 50-day voyage.

La Prudencia is the first delivery in a five-vessel acquisition program that includes construction of two 1B ice-class product carriers, which are scheduled for delivery in the second and third quarters of 2007; a second-hand double-hull product tanker, which is on time charter until September; and a 105,000 dwt Aframax tanker being built by Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd., Japan, and is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2008.

Tsakos will take delivery later this quarter of the 37,532 dwt product tanker Delphi built in 2004.
