HOUSTON, Jan. 24 -- CNPC International Ltd.'s Mauritania unit and Baraka Petroleum Corp., Perth, chose a location for drilling of the Heron-1 well on Block 20 in the Mauritania Coastal basin, Baraka said.

Planned TD is 3,800 m with primary objectives in Cenomanian sands and a secondary target in the Albian-Aptian sand and limestone interval.

The Tevet-2 and Faulcon-1 discoveries in similar lithologies offshore "contributed to an increase in the probability of success for the planned onshore Heron-1 well and confirms Baraka's longstanding hypothesis for a working Jurassic and early Cretaceous source," Baraka said.
