LOS ANGELES, Jan. 23 -- Three natural gas pipelines owned by state-owned Assam Gas Co. Ltd. allegedly were attacked by separatist militants in Assam, India, on Jan. 22.
B.C. Sharma, the company's managing director, said all three pipelines are in the state's eastern region. One supplied fuel to a regional electric power plant.
A spokesman of state-owned Oil India Limited (OIL) said crude oil supply through pipelines to four refineries in Assam also was disrupted by the blasts.
"Bombings on some of the gas pipelines have affected operations in one of our oil fields leading to disruption of crude oil supply. We are now transporting oil to the refineries using tankers," said senior OIL official Nripen Bharali.
Police said rebels from the United Liberation Front of Asom, or ULFA, were believed to be behind the attacks.
