HOUSTON, Dec. 5 -- Statoil ASA has received approval from the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy for development of Tyrihans oil and gas field in the Norwegian Sea.

The project has yet to be approved by the country's parliament.

Statoil said Tyrihans has two structures: Tyrihans South, an oil field with a gas cap, and Tyrihans North, a gas and condensate field with a thin oil zone.

It will develop the field with 12 wells drilled through five subsea templates tied back to the Kristin oil field platform 35 km to the northwest (OGJ, July 25, 2005, Newsletter).
