LOS ANGELES, Dec 22 -- South Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. (HMM) commissioned a 310,000-ton class oil tanker on Dec 22.

The Universal Crown is the second very large crude carrier commissioned by Hyundai Merchant Marine after the Universal Queen in November.

The new ship can carry more than 2 million bbl of crude oil.

HMM said the two VLCCs will deliver crude oil from the Middle East and Africa to Asia and North America about seven times a year.
