HOUSTON, Dec. 12 -- Far East Energy Corp. this month plans to spud its second coalbed methane (CBM) horizontal well on the Shouyang Block in Shanxi Province, China.

The block is part of a 1-million-acre CBM farmout from ConocoPhillips (OGJ, July 11, 2005, p. 35).

Far East Energy expects to drill the new well, FCC HZ02, horizontally through 13,120 ft of coal seam. Drilling will require 30-45 days.

Far East's Shanxi project partner, China United Coalbed Methane Corp. Ltd., has agreed to extend the second phase of the exploration period of the Shouyang and Qinnan production sharing contracts from Dec. 31 to Mar. 31, 2006.

Far East on Nov. 29 began a production test of its first horizontal well, FCC HZ01, where drilling recently was completed with 8,200 ft of horizontal reach in the coal seam (OGJ, July 11, 2005, p. 35).
