Eni to buy shares of permits off Australia

Eni Australia BV is buying Woodside Petroleum Ltd.'s interests in three permits off Australia for $30 million, subject to government approval and consent of other partners in one permit.

HOUSTON, Dec. 6 -- Eni Australia BV is buying Woodside Petroleum Ltd.'s interests in three permits off Australia for $30 million, subject to government approval and consent of other partners in one permit.

Eni plans to buy Woodside's 53.85% interest in WA-279-P, including Blacktip gas and condensate field in the Bonaparte basin (OGJ, Oct. 1, 2001, p. 44). Blacktip, to begin production in 2007, is 300 km southwest of Darwin.

The deal also involves Woodside's 50% interest in WA-313-P, including Penguin gas field. Subject to the consent of other partners in the joint venture, Eni plans to acquire Woodside's 39% interest in WA-34-R, including Rubicon and Prometheus gas fields.
