HOUSTON, Nov. 23 -- Calvalley Petroleum Inc., Calgary, has named Donald W. Shepherd as vice-president, engineering and production.

In his new position, Shepherd will oversee the installation of early production facilities and the tying-in of wells at Hiswah oil field in Yemen, where the company has completed its fifth horizontal well (OGJ Online, Nov. 21, 2005).

Shepherd has 14 years of engineering and management experience previously with Saudi Aramco. His experience in Saudi Arabia includes senior responsibility for the first installation of electrical submersible pumps in the giant Ghawar oil field.

Separately, Scott Barron, a member of Calvalley's geological team for the past 4 years, has been appointed manager, exploration. He is a senior geologist with experience in both international and domestic projects.

Barron joined Calvalley in 2001 after working with Gulfstream Resources Canada Ltd.—now Anadarko Petroleum Corp.—as manager, development geology, on international oil and gas development projects in Oman, Madagascar, and off Qatar.
