US rig count static at 1,482

US drilling activity was essentially static for the third consecutive week with 1,482 rotary rigs working, 1 more than the previous week and up from 1,225 during the same period last year, said Baker Hughes Inc.

HOUSTON, Oct. 14 -- US drilling activity was essentially static for the third consecutive week with 1,482 rotary rigs working, 1 more than the previous week and up from 1,225 during the same period last year, said Baker Hughes Inc.

Offshore drilling registered the biggest gain, up by 2 rigs to 84 in the Gulf of Mexico and 88 in US waters as a whole. Inland waters activity increased by 1 rig to 21. However, land operations slipped by 2 rigs to 1,373. The major producing states reporting rig losses this week were Wyoming, down 5 to 82; and New Mexico, which lost 2 to 94.

Canada's rig count jumped by 57 to 534 this week, up from 410 a year ago.
