Thailand licensing round draws more bids

Thailand's energy ministry has received two additional applications for petroleum exploration blocks, raising the total number of applicants in the country's current licensing round to 11 groups and increasing the number of tracts sought to 13 (OGJ Online, Aug 22, 2005).

BANGKOK, Oct. 24 -- Thailand's energy ministry has received two additional applications for petroleum exploration blocks, raising the total number of applicants in the country's current licensing round to 11 groups and increasing the number of tracts sought to 13 (OGJ Online, Aug 22, 2005).

A combine of Occidental Exploration Pte. Ltd. and Malaysia's Syarikat Borcos Shipping Sdn. Bhd. bid for Block G3/48, which covers 11,800 sq km in the Gulf of Thailand.

Pan Orient Energy Corp, formerly Welwyn Resources Ltd. of Canada, bid on the 3,997-sq-km L53/48 onshore block southwest of Bangkok.

Tracts are expected to be awarded by yearend.
