BANGKOK, Oct. 25 -- Aromatics (Thailand) PLC (ATC) let a $660 million contract to a South Korean consortium of SK Engineering & Construction and GS Engineering & Construction to build its second aromatics plant in Rayong Province on Thailand's eastern coast.

Due for start-up in third quarter 2008, the aromatics complex will have annual production capacities of 363,000 tonnes/year (tpy) of benzene and 616,000 tpy of paraxylene, according to ATC executives.

The additional output will raise ATC's output capacity of benzene to 830,000 tpy and paraxylene to 1.111 million tpy.

The company is constructing a plant producing cyclohexane, to be used as raw material for a nylon production line with capacity of 150,000 tpy.

ATC is also revamping its feed-fractionation unit, which will raise its condensate processing capacity by 40%.
