HOUSTON, Oct. 25 -- Production from the Åsgard B platform in the Norwegian Sea has been shut down after a fire was detected Oct. 15 in the exhaust section in one of the main generators. An investigation is under way.

Åsgard B produces more than 80,000 b/d of condensate and 35 million cu m/day of gas. It remains unclear when production can resume.

Statoil said repairs will be made to the platform to "ensure a safe and secure start-up."

The Åsgard B shutdown has also halted production from Statoil's Mikkel gas field, which produces about 16,000 b/d of condensate and just under 7 million cu m/day of gas.

Gas produced at Åsgard is mixed with gas from other fields in the area before it flows through the Åsgard Transport line to the Kaarstoe processing complex north of Stavanger.

Gas from Statoil's Heidrun field, which also flows through Åsgard Transport, will be reinjected while the platform remains shut down. About 1.5 million cu m/day is injected.

The shut-in production will not affect deliveries to Statoil's gas customers.
