HOUSTON, Sept. 8 -- Sinopec Guangzhou Co., a unit of China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), has let a contract to Invensys Process Systems, Foxboro, Mass., to supply automation systems for a major refinery expansion in southern China.

The systems, to be installed at Sinopec's Guangzhou City complex in the Huangpu District, will support the increase of the refinery's capacity to 13 million tonnes/year of crude from 7 million tonnes/year. The new processes also will enable Sinopec to process high-sodium crudes from the Middle East.

The I/A series automation systems will control new and expanded units for crude distillation, hydrocracking, hydrogen generation, kero hydrogenation, hydrogen refining, and various tank farm facilities.
