HOUSTON, Sept. 9 -- Dynegy Inc., Houston, has promoted Stephen A. Furbacher to president and chief operating officer.

In his new role, Furbacher, currently executive vice-president of the company's midstream natural gas business, will oversee both power generation and midstream operations. Furbacher has more than 30 years of operations experience.

Dynegy expects to close on the sale of its midstream business to Targa Resources Inc., also of Houston, in the fourth quarter (OGJ Online, Aug. 3, 2005).

Furbacher appointment follows the resignation last month of Power Generation Executive Vice-Pres. Alec G. Dreyer, who left the company in order to pursue other interests, Dynegy said.

Furbacher began his career as a design engineer with Chevron Corp. in 1973. He was named president of Chevron's Warren Petroleum Co. in 1994. In 1996, he joined Dynegy as president of its midstream business.
