DTE Energy unit buys Barnett shale assets

HOUSTON, Sept. 1 -- A subsidiary of DTE Energy Co., Detroit, acquired leasehold mineral rights and 40 producing gas wells on 18,000 acres in the Barnett shale in Jack County, Tex. More than 90% of the acreage is undeveloped.

DTE Gas Resources declined to release the value of the acquisition or information about sellers.

Richard Redmond, DTE Gas Resources president, said the company expects to invest up to $100 million this year in the Barnett shale operation, including the acquisition price. Previously, the company produced in northern Michigan's Antrim shale.
