US drilling activity continues to gain

US drilling activity continued to increase this week, inching up by 2 rotary rigs to 1,412 working, up from 1,229 rigs a year ago, said Baker Hughes Inc. on July 29.

HOUSTON, July 29 -- US drilling activity continued to increase this week, inching up by 2 rotary rigs to 1,412 working, up from 1,229 rigs a year ago, said Baker Hughes Inc. on July 29.

All of this week's gain was in offshore operations, up by 2 to 102 in the Gulf of Mexico and 106 in US waters as a whole. Other US drilling activity was unchanged at 1,282 rigs on land and 24 in inland waters.

Canada also was unchanged with 521 rotary rigs working this week, up from 423 a year ago.
