HOUSTON, June 23 -- A storm-related power failure in the Empress, Alta., area June 21, resulted in power failure and damages to the Empress I, Empress II, and Empress V straddle plants operated by a BP Canada Energy Co. affiliate.

BP Canada Energy Resources Co. shut down the facilities to assess damages, and the plants have been unable to receive natural gas, process it, or deliver product to any other facility since June 21. The plants, 100 km northeast of Medicine Hat, extract natural gas liquids from Alberta gas. It is not known how long the plants will remain down.

BP said there were no injuries, environmental damage, or public safety impacts.

Fort Chicago Energy Partners LP, Calgary, owner of the 1,324 km Alberta Ethane Gathering System and the sole transporter of ethane from the Empress facilities to Joffre and Fort Saskatchewan, Ata., reported "no appreciable effect" on its revenue expectations from outages at the Empress facilities.
