HOUSTON, May 20 -- Rohöl AG (RAG), Wingas GMBH, and Gazexport have signed a contract valued at 250 million euros to use Haidach natural gas field in Austria for gas storage.

RAG will design, build, and operate the storage facility, which will have maximum working volume of about 2.4 billion cu m. Operations are to begin in 2007.

The Haidach gas storage facility will be connected, via an 800-mm diameter pipeline, to a German-Austrian gas terminal in Burghausen.

Haidach field, discovered by RAG in 1997 at a depth of 1,600 m, has produced 2.9 billion cu m since the start of production in 1998 from reserves of 4.3 billion cu m.
