Venoco sells BMC field, buys Marquez Energy

Venoco Inc., Carpinteria, Calif., has closed the sale of Big Mineral Creek (BMC) field in Grayson County, North Texas, to BlackWell BMC LP for $45 million.

HOUSTON, Apr. 13 -- Venoco Inc., Carpinteria, Calif., has closed the sale of Big Mineral Creek (BMC) field in Grayson County, North Texas, to BlackWell BMC LP for $45 million.

Venoco had acquired the 411-boe/d field from Shell E&P in August 1996. To date, Venoco's net production from the field is 2.4 million boe. The field's average net production for March 2005 was 559 boe/d from 70 wells.

Venoco has also completed the acquisition, last month, of Marquez Energy LLC (MELLC) and its operations in the Sacramento basin of California.

MELLC's average net production in the first quarter was 450 boe/d. Its 2004 yearend reserves were 2 million boe.
