US drilling down for second consecutive week

US drilling activity dipped again for the second consecutive week, down by 18 units with 1,325 rotary rigs working, up from 1,161 a year ago, said Baker Hughes Inc. on Apr. 29.

HOUSTON, Apr. 29 -- US drilling activity dipped again for the second consecutive week, down by 18 units with 1,325 rotary rigs working, up from 1,161 a year ago, said Baker Hughes Inc. on Apr. 29.

All of the loss was in land operations, down by 23 rigs with 1,206 working this week. Activity in inland waters increased by 3 rigs to 29. Offshore drilling was up by 2 rigs to 86 in the Gulf of Mexico and 90 for US waters as a whole.

In Canada, drilling increased by 1 rig to 160 this week, up from 155 in the same period last year.
