Contract let for Nigerian GTL plant

Chevron Nigeria Ltd. and Nigeria National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) awarded a $1.7 billion engineering, procurement, and construction contract for a gas-to-liquids plant to be built in Escravos, Nigeria.

HOUSTON, Apr. 8 -- Chevron Nigeria Ltd. and Nigeria National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) awarded a $1.7 billion engineering, procurement, and construction contract for a gas-to-liquids plant to be built in Escravos, Nigeria.

The contractor is a joint venture involving Halliburton Co. unit KBR, Italy's ENI subsidiary Snamprogetti, and Japan's JGC Corp. The GTL plant will produce 34,000 b/d of GTL diesel, naphtha, and LPG for export.

The facility will use Sasol's Slurry Phase Distillate process, which employs Haldor Topsøe's Autothermal reforming, Sasol's Fischer-Tropsch technology, and ChevronTexaco's Isocracking process.

Chevron Nigeria, a unit of ChevronTexaco Corp., owns 75% interest, and NNPC owns 25% interest.
