Exmar orders two newbuild LPG carriers

Independent shipping group Exmar NV, Antwerp, signed a newbuilding contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. of South Korea to construct two Very Large Gas Carriers slated for delivery in first half 2008.

HOUSTON, Mar. 11 -- Independent shipping group Exmar NV, Antwerp, signed a newbuilding contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. of South Korea to construct two Very Large Gas Carriers that will bring Exmar's fleet of liquid gas carriers to 62.

Gas carriers transport cooled liquefied petroleum gases such as propane and butane that are not required to be as cold as liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The newbuild VLGCs, each of which will have a capacity of 84,000 cu m, are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2008.
