HOUSTON, Mar. 1 -- Woodside Energy Ltd., Perth, operator of the North West Shelf Venture, has signed a letter of intent with Foster Wheeler WA Pty. Ltd. and WorleyParsons Services Pty. Ltd. for engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPC) of the venture's proposed LNG Phase V project (OGJ, Jan. 24, 2005, Newsletter).

Phase V includes construction of a 4.2-million-tonne/year LNG train and related expansion work at the venture's LNG complex near Karratha, Western Australia. The addition would expand total capacity to 15.9 million tonnes/year.

Award of the EPC contract awaits Phase V project approval by the six equal venture participants. That approval, planned for the first half of 2005 in line with a fourth quarter 2008 start-up, is subject to LNG marketing progress and individual participant board approvals.

In addition to Woodside, participants in LNG Phase V are BHP Billiton (North West Shelf) Pty. Ltd., BP Developments Australia Pty. Ltd., ChevronTexaco Australia Pty. Ltd., Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty. Ltd., and Shell Development (Australia) Pty. Ltd. Each participant holds a 16.67% interest.

CNOOC NWS Private Ltd. is also a member of the North West Shelf Venture but does not have an interest in North West Shelf Venture infrastructure.
