HOUSTON, Feb. 22 -- Venezuela and Jamaica signed a letter of intent to study working together in refining, marketing, and distribution in Jamaica.

The agreement allows the nations to assess the potential of upgrading and expanding the 36,000 b/d Petrojam Refinery in Kingston. It also includes a technical, economic, and trade feasibility study on the probable participation of Petroleos de Venezuela SA in Petcom Ltd., a subsidiary of Petroleum Corp. of Jamaica, to expand PDVSA's service-station network on the Caribbean island, as well as other nations in the area.
