US drilling activity dipped slightly during the first week of 2005, down by 1 unit with 1,242 rotary rigs working, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Jan. 7.

HOUSTON, Jan. 7 -- US drilling activity dipped slightly during the first week of 2005, down by 1 unit with 1,242 rotary rigs working, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Jan. 7.

Land drilling was unchanged with 1,117 rigs at work. Inland waters operations dipped by 2 units to 19 active rigs. Offshore drilling increased by 1 rig to 101 in the Gulf of Mexico and 106 in US waters as a whole.

Canada's rig count jumped by 115 to 461 units working this week. However, that's down from 488 a year ago.
