KARACHI, Jan. 12 -- A group led by MOL Pakistan, Budapest, reported a second discovery on the 4,600-sq-km Tal block southwest of Peshawar in northern Pakistan.

The Makor-1 discovery well, in the Kohat basin of Northwest Frontier Province, encountered several hydrocarbon zones.

Zone 1 at 2,888-2,925.5 m produced 16.72 MMscfd of gas and 1,179 b/d of condensate at 3,645 psi flowing wellhead pressure.

Zone 2 at 3,166-78 m flowed 1,700 b/d of oil and 2.3 MMscfd of gas at 1,013 psi flowing wellhead pressure.

Zone 3 at 3,129-52 m produced 2,979 b/d of oil and 5.3 MMscfd of gas at 2,041 psi flowing wellhead pressure. All three tests were on 1/2 in. chokes.

Tests of other prospective zones were in progress.

The group obtained rights to the block in 1999. Its first discovery, Manzalai-1, came in December 2002 and found an estimated 1 tcf of gas dubbed Gurguri gas and condensate field (OGJ, Mar. 10, 2003, p. 45).

The group consists of MOL, Oil & Gas Development Corp., Pakistan Petroleum Ltd., Pakistan Oilfields Ltd., and Government Holdings.
