HOUSTON, Jan. 28 -- The government awarded Repsol YPF, Madrid, exploration rights to Block 16 off the country's western coast.
Repsol, operator, and Woodside Petroleum Ltd., Perth, hold 50-50 interests in Block 17 and adjacent blocks 16 and 17 off Liberia and adjacent blocks 6 and 7 off Sierra Leone. All four blocks extend from near shore to more than 10,000 ft of water.
Repsol collected 3D seismic data on the Sierra Leone blocks last year.
Repsol's initial plans on the blocks include gathering 400 line km of 2D seismic data and 1,600 sq km of 3D data in 4 years.
