HOUSTON, Dec. 20 -- US drilling activity continued to fluctuate, dropping by 16 units with 1,234 rotary rigs working the week that ended Dec. 17, Baker Hughes Inc. reported. That compares with 1,112 rigs active during the same period a year ago.
Land operations accounted for the loss, down by 16 rigs with 1,106 working. Offshore drilling dipped by 1 rig to 100 working in the Gulf of Mexico and 107 in US waters overall. That was offset by the increase of 1 rig in inland waters to 21 working.
Canada's weekly rig count increased by 24 units to 524 active, up from 495 a year ago.
