HOUSTON, Nov. 2 -- The Nigerian government wants its country's refineries to process half the crude oil produced in Nigeria by 2010.

Director of Petroleum Resources Mark Ofurhie said the government is seeking experienced Nigerians to own and run the refineries to meet a mandate set by Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, OPEC News Agency reported.

The government would sell Nigeria's four refineries, which have total refining capacity of 445,000 b/d but which have been operating below capacity, and award licenses to entrepreneurs to build new plants.
