HOUSTON, Oct. 13 -- Norwegian regulatory authorities approved a development and operating plan from Marathon Oil Corp. unit Marathon Petroleum Norge AS for Alvheim area fields.

The Alvheim area, on the Heimdal formation in the Norwegian Sea, includes Kneler, Boa, and Kameleon fields. Production is slated for early 2007. Marathon is Alvheim area operator, holding a 65% interest; ConocoPhillips holds 20%; and Lundin Norway AS has 15%.

Development plans call for a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) with subsea infrastructure involving five drill centers and associated flow lines. The FPSO will be a converted multipurpose shuttle tanker (OGJ Online, Feb. 23, 2004).
