Thailand's new state LNG firm plans LNG infrastructure, imports

Thailand's state-owned energy company PTT PLC has established subsidiary PTT LNG Co. to procure and regasify LNG.

BANGKOK, Sept. 28 -- Thailand's state-owned energy company PTT PLC has established subsidiary PTT LNG Co. to procure and regasify LNG.

PTT LNG will implement a multibillion-dollar investment for LNG infrastructure, including a 3-5 million tonne/year LNG receiving terminal, regasification plant, and related facilities, all scheduled to be on stream in 2010, according to PTT Pres. Prasert Bunsumpun.

PTT holds 100% of PTT LNG but later will allow others to join as strategic partners.

PTT projects that Thailand's current natural gas demand of 2.6-2.7 bcfd will grow by more than 7%/year during 2004-10. The company has been looking at procuring LNG from Iran, Oman, and other sources.
