HOUSTON, Aug. 20 -- Vector Pipeline LP Friday announced the launch of a nonbinding open season for a 2006 mainline expansion project for the natural gas transmission pipeline. The open season will begin Sept. 1.

Vector currently transports about 1 bcfd of gas and has the ability to increase this capacity to as much as 1.5 bcfd through the construction of additional compressor stations, it said.

Vector supplies gas from the Chicago Hub (at Joliet, Ill.) into storage (at Dawn, Ont.) as well as to Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and southwest Ontario. The 349 mile Vector Pipeline system will be able to time and size an economical project to meet these markets' needs as early as Nov. 1, 2006, it said.

Shippers have until Sept. 30 to bid for firm capacity; all of Vector's receipt and delivery points are included.

Vector is a joint venture of Calgary-based Enbridge Inc. 60% and Detroit-based DTE Energy Co. 40%.
