HOUSTON, Aug. 3 -- Algerian state company Sonatrach awarded am exploration block to a partnership formed by Spanish companies Repsol YPF and Gas Natural SDG.
The block, in the western Berkine basin, covers 4,831 sq km and is in eastern Algeria. Both Repsol and Gas Natural said they are trying to increase gas reserves to meet the growing demands of a Spanish market.
Repsol and Gas Natural are discussing the possibility of jointly developing an LNG project in Algeria involving gas from Gassi Touil field.
